Want To Know About The BlueTEC?
November 11, 2008
The brand name for Mercedes – Benz is BlueTec which is being applied to the new “clean” diesel car. Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC has the E320 Bluetec engine. This engine has four valves per cylinder. The fuel injector is located at the center of top of combustion chamber. This is the place where the four valve gasoline engines locate the spark plug for the optimum fuel burn. The engine has a chain driven balance shaft inside it and this smoothens out the vibration. This Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC injector is fed by a central fuel rail and the fuel is supplied at a very high pressure. The two variant systems that exist in Bluetec are NAC + SCR system and Adbule System. This system is used on “45 state” version of E320. There are number of components in the Blutec system that scrubs the exhaust before getting released in to the atmosphere. The NAC + SCR leave the engine and passes through the diesel oxidation catalyst. This reduces the carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbon. In addition to this ammonia is supplied by injecting a fluid AdBlue to the exhaust upstream of SCR catalyst. This enables the SCR to reduce NO2 emissions to a level. AdBlue system houses the DOC and is carried in an on board tank. This replenishes when the car is serviced
