Profiting from Cell Phone Towers
July 29, 2008
As mentioned in my previous post, cell phone towers is big money business these days. Thousands of households across the country are making loads of money by letting their land be used for construction of cell phone towers. These cell phone towers are constructed and maintained by wireless carriers themselves in most cases. In some cases they are developed by tower developers who construct and maintain these towers and then lease them out to wireless carriers. Irrespective of whether this is done by the wireless carrier or by a tower developer, the modus operandi is the same.
Landlords who have some space to spare for the construction of cell phone towers approach the wireless carriers usually through an intermediary. If the wireless carrier (or a tower developer) likes the landlord’s property and feels that a tower constructed there would help provide better connectivity to its customers in that area, the negotiation phase begins. In this phase the payment and other terms of the contract are negotiated. It’s important that the landlord hires the services of a highly reputed intermediary who knows in and out of the cell tower leasing business, so that he/she can profit the most from the cell tower lease.
