Festival Speech Synthesis System is an open source speech synthesis software which is available free of cost since it has been released under a free software licence having terms which are similar to the BSD licence. Festival Speech Synthesis System is packed with very powerful features and employs a full text to speech conversion system built into the software. Festival Speech Synthesis System is one the very few open source softwares that I have come across, being developed in the C++ programming language. C++ being a very popular programming language, there should be hundreds of top programmers working on developing the software further. Festival Speech Synthesis System has been designed for the windows operating system. However, the developers have made available a plugin for GStreamer with which it can be used for various linux distributions.
