Audacity Open Source Audio tool

Date May 19, 2008

Audacity is a cool Open Source Audio tool which has tons of features. It is a free, open source Cross Platform Audio Editor which is even used by professional visual communication engineers and amateur documentary directors for recording and editing audio tracks while making professional quality short films and documentaries. Audacity is also used by podcasters. Audacity uses the wxWidgets software library for providing a similar graphical user interface on various different operating systems. Audacity is not only effective when it comes to recording and playing sounds but also has lots of features required for professional Editing and multi track mixing of audio tracks.

One of the many interesting features that audacity has is the ability to change the audio’s pitch as per the users requirement. Audacity scores high on ease of use since the software is very very easy to use even though it has thousands of features packed into it. As mentioned earlier in this post, audacity is free software. It isat present licensed under the GNU General Public License v2. In the coming few months Audacity may update to GPLv3 after version 1.4.0 is released. With so many features the software could very easily sell for over $1000. No wonder it was able to win the SourceForge.net Community Choice Award for the Best Multimedia Project for the year 2007.
